2025
- The Board of Commissioners approves “Resolution of the Board of Commissioners of DeKalb County Supporting Policy Changes to Protect Seniors, Disabled Individuals, and Low-Income Residents Against Upcoming Water Rate Increases.” This resolution promotes water equity for all and includes “implementation of a master planning process for the Pole Bridge Wastewater Treatment Facility, to include brownfield remediation and sustainability goals.”
- Southface Institute presents the final DeKalb County 100% Clean Energy and Transportation Plan to the OPS Committee.
- The Board of Commissioners approves the “Adoption of the DeKalb County Trails and Greenway Master Plan.“
- Commissioner Terry introduces a resolution “to Adopt the DeKalb County 100% Clean Energy and Transportation Transition Plan and Requesting the DeKalb County Administration Execute the Plan” and is unanimously approved by the Board of Commissioners on Earth Day.
- The Board of Commissioners approves the “A Resolution To Adopt The DeKalb County Library Landscape Transition Plan And Requesting The DeKalb County Administration To Execute The Plan.”
- The Board of Commissioners approves the “To Amend The Code Of DeKalb County, Georgia, Chapter 19, Section 28, To Authorize Class 1 And Class 2 Electric Assisted Bicycles To Be Operated On Bicycle Paths And Shared Use Paths Where Bicycles Are Permitted To Be Operated.”
2024
- The Board of Commissioners approves a resolution “Commit to the Transformation of the South River Forest by Adopting the Recommendations of the “Explore South River Forest” Report and For the Administration to Prepare and Deliver an Implementation Plan”
- The Board of Commissioners approves a resolution “to Collaborate with MARTA to Achieve Portions of the DeKalb County Transit Master Plan Goals“
- Commissioner Terry advocated for a commitment from the DeKalb County Administration to put out an RFP for a compost facility in DeKalb County and, if feasible, to be constructed in 3 years as a part of the Sanitation Division Annual Residential Services Rate Increase.
- Commissioner Terry introduces a resolution to establish a resident led DeKalb County Environmental Justice Commission. STATUS: A substitute has changed the name to “Environmental Justice and Sustainability Resident Advisory Group.” This item is being discussed at the Board of Commissioners
2023
- Electric Vehicle Fleet expansion for DeKalb County including 2 new Ford Lightning Pick Up Trucks
- Commissioner Terry advocated for a $350K annual fund for Green School Yards included in the Stormwater Fee Increase.
- The Board of Commissioners approved a resolution “Requesting The Installation Of Solar Panels On DeKalb County Owned Facilities And Land“
- The Board of Commissioners approved a resolution “Calling for an Energy Efficiency Audit and Energy Performance Review of All DeKalb County Government-Owned Buildings and Facilities.“
- DeKalb County becomes the second county in Georgia to include “Renewable Energy Project(s)” in the County’s SPLOST II Categories.
- The Board of Commissioners approved the creation of a “Wildflower and Beautification Fund Supporting the Georgia Department of Transportation’s (GDOT) DeKalb County Wildflower Program” to beautify public landscapes with wildflowers and provide crucial pollinator habitat. Commissioner Terry appropriated $10,000 towards the fund.
2022
- Board of Commissioners approves a resolution to “Adopt a Vision and Transition Plan for all library landscapes”
- DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office launches a program for detention officers to be able to take home electric vehicles
- Retrofit of DeKalb County’s Sam St building
- DeKalb County’s Million Tree Initiative and the ReLeaf Program
- Commissioner Terry appropriated ARP funding for stormwater investments to install the first roads and drainage bioswale at the East Decatur Greenway
- Skyhaven Quarry Development: Preserve the historic Atlanta Quarry and donate the area for permanent conservation to the DeKalb County Parks
- Restarted Empower Clarkston program with Tekton to provide green training for Clarkston’s workforce who will retrofit and weatherize households to be more energy efficient.
2021
- Board of Commissioners approved the 100% Clean Energy Resolution setting goals for 100% clean energy by 2050, making it the sixth local government in Georgia to make such a pledge.
- First year of Design Studios (2023 marked the 3rd year) with GA Tech and Ellen Dunham-Jones looking at how we can retrofit and sustainably redesign North and South DeKalb Mall, Memorial Drive, and Scottsdale
- Productive Urban Landscapes installed at 6 DeKalb County Libraries as a Pilot Project
- Cottages on Vaughn won the Atlanta Regional Commission’s 2021 Regional Excellence Awards for Innovative Development proving it as a sustainable middle housing solution and need for updating Cottage Court Ordinance
- Applied for GA Power’s Make Ready Program grant to expand electric vehicles and installed EV Chargers at DeKalb County’s Sam St. location
- Continued efforts of Commissioner Gannon to continue the study of the Peachtree Creek Greenway
