Artist Lori Lejeune’s large-scale pollinator art banners will soon land in green spaces throughout DeKalb County. The name of the series, Be The Change, speaks to Commissioner Terry and Lori Lejeune’s shared hope that the public will be inspired to take steps towards positive change in their communities and protect our vulnerable native insects and local ecosystems.

The project will incorporate four installations of two banners each, one sized for adults and one sized for children, that act as a backdrop for selfies and photographs that can then expand the artwork’s impact digitally beyond the physical installation. The first banners will be installed at Legacy Park during the upcoming Truckin’ Tuesdays event on Tuesday, September 15 from 5-8 PM. Three additional locations will host future artworks along the Stone Mountain Trail in Scottdale, Avondale Estates, and Clarkston.

The art installations will be accompanied by free community engagement events, such as craft-making, that bring positive attention to these important initiatives. The community engagement elements are offered at no cost to the public thanks to support from co-sponsor Melanie Shaw of Art Share Foundation, a non-profit organization that fosters joy and community engagement via art.

Shakespeare is back under the stars! Following two successful seasons, the popular community theatre series returns this fall with a new name, a new theatre partner, and an expanded evening experience at the Avondale Estates Town Green.

Presented in partnership with the Office of DeKalb County Commissioner Ted Terry, Super District 6, the City of Avondale Estates, Bard x Sage PR, and Georgia Classic Theatre, Shakespeare at Sunset brings professional classical theatre directly into the community, free of charge.

This season also introduces a new collaboration with Georgia Classic Theatre, founded by longtime Shakespeare actor and director Allen O’Reilly. The company includes accomplished artists with deep roots in Atlanta’s classical theatre community.

And this year, the performances are moving later in the evening so audiences can enjoy Shakespeare as the sun goes down. Come early for live music and family-friendly programming, then settle in for an evening of professional theatre outdoors.

Climate change is here. What story will you tell?

Commissioner Ted Terry and Resilient DeKalb are teaming up to present a Free 2026 Climate Film Festival on Friday, October 23 (6:00 PM – 9:30 PM) and Saturday, October 24 (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM), at the Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center.

The two-day festival will include screenings of two featured films — ‘Groundswell‘ which tells the story of a global movement of regenerative agriculture restoring farms, land and ecosystems, and ‘The Tree Economy‘ which explores the tension between urban development and Atlanta’s massive tree canopy — alongside a selection of short films submitted by Georgia-based filmmakers and creatives.

Bringing together filmmakers, artists, conservationists, educators, community leaders, and neighbors, the event will celebrate the power of film while also confronting difficult topics of climate change, ecological crises, and humanity’s impact on our planet. Through film screenings, thought-provoking panels, interactive art experiences, and conversation, we will seek to address the climate-related problems facing us while also instilling hope for a better tomorrow.
