Aging in Placers Volunteers with Totes Treasures to Support Vulnerable Adults

Article is from the Aging in Placers newsletter sent on August 31, 2026.

Aging in Placers is partnering to volunteer with Totes Treasures, an initiative that supports the well-being of vulnerable adults who are victims of elder abuse, exploitation, neglect, and those residing in unlicensed care homes. The goal is to restore dignity, comfort, and hope to individuals facing difficult and often uncertain life circumstances.

Totes Treasures is an initiative of Totes to Tots Inc. that partners with the Georgia Department of Human Services’ Division of Aging Services and its Temporary Emergency Respite Fund (TERF) unit to help identify needs and ensure essential care items are distributed to vulnerable adults throughout the year. The TERF unit provides emergency placement and temporary housing for vulnerable adults.

Through Totes Treasures, participants receive a brand-new backpack filled with essential care items, including personal hygiene products and other necessities that can be easily carried with them during periods of transition or emergency relocation.

Aging in Placers will volunteer for “Packing Parties” to pack backpacks, ensuring they are available for older adults when needed. This is an ideal partnership that allows Aging in Placers to help other older adults.

We will email Calls to Action for Aging in Placers to participate in Packing Parties.
