Results of polls from our August “Add Your Voice” event identified the Aging in Placers’ priorities for the DeKalb Zoning Update and DeKalb County Comprehensive Housing Plan (DCCHP). These are two projects that will have major long-term impacts on the future of aging in place in the County.
POLL RESULTS for the DeKalb Zoning Update
The graph below shows poll results for priorities for the DeKalb Zoning Update, followed by key takeaways:

Key Takeaways:
#1 – Top support centered on greenway and trail-aligned development, leading the zoning priorities with 76% of respondents rating it High Priority.
#2 – Smaller housing options also showed strong support with a 100% combined High/Medium support.
#3 – Accessibility and aging-in-place considerations ranked near the top, with easier county approval among the strongest priorities.
#4 – Parking reform for smaller housing and neighborhood commercial flexibility drew the weakest support, suggesting more mixed views.

Key Takeaways:
#1 & #2 – Communication and resident inclusion rose to the top, with each earning 92% High Priority and 100% combined High/Medium support.
#3 – Naturally, aging in place was a dominant theme, with expanding housing options that support aging in place at 85% High Priority.
#4 – Here, residents strongly support use of county-owned property and strategies that protect communities from investor takeover and displacement.
Overall, support was broad across nearly all housing recommendations; even support for modular home developers, the lowest ranked, still received 88% combined High/Medium support.
